Highlands Ranch Colorado

In 1978 Highlands Ranch was purchased by Mission Viejo. As the suburbs of Denver expanded, Mission Viejo desired to build a new planned suburb in northern Douglas County.

Large parcels of land were sold to private housing developers. As these developments appeared, they often carried their own names, creating a series of segmented neighborhoods throughout Highlands Ranch.

Plans for Highlands Ranch included green belts which provided for undeveloped land for recreation. The plans also allowed for a large number of public parks, recreation centers, bike paths and a public library.

Highlands Ranch is an unincorporated community, its boundaries are somewhat undefined, though generally accepted boundaries is the County Line Road to the north, Quebec Street to the east, Santa Fe Boulevard to the west, and Daniels Park to the south.
